Principal V K Joag: A legend
‘Heights by great men reached and kept,
Were not attained by a sudden flight,
They while their companions slept,
Were toiling upwards in the night.’
These lines perfectly sum up the spirit of Prin. V. K. Joag…the visionary who was ahead of his times.
When it rains, birds find shelter; but the eagle flies above the clouds. Yes, definitely, attitude matters. As it has been rightly said that great people are great not only because they do different things but also because they do the things differently. Prin. V. K. Joag was one of them. Today he is not among us but we can see him, feel his dedication, and hear his voice in the surroundings of the Institutes built and developed by him. The educational institutes started and nourished by him have become now the icons of not only the city of Pune and Mumbai but also of the state and our nation as a whole. The lives of thousands of the students have been (and are being) brightened up by the lamp of education that Prin. V. K. Joag established more than seven decades ago.
On this occasion of Platinum Jubilee the distinguished founding father of this Institute Prin. V. K. Joag is really worthy of paying homage. And no doubt the real homage will only be to provoke ourselves, at least to a degree of our capacity, to try to reach the height of his ideals. If we really want to commemorate Joag’s memory, we can only do it by “carrying out in our life the high ideals for which he lived.”
