TACKLING WATER PROBLEMS
Recently, two months ago, Maharashtra faced a drought situation in many villages. What had gone wrong? Was there not too much rain last year? No. then how could we tackle this problem. We are likely going to face it if we do not have a proper solution for it. How interesting it would be if we are able to produce water! ‘But is it possible?’ would be the question in your mind. And the answer is yes.
There is a company named ‘EOLE’, has manufactured a water producing unit, which utilizes the air around itself to produce water around it. The unit is nothing but a very big wind turbine wind mill situated at a height, not less than 80-100m. there due to the wind flow the turbine rotates and this energy or rotational motion transmitted to the intake blades, which allows the air above it to get inside a condenser (A condenser is a device which is used to extract/remove the heat from the body) and this air which is in gaseous state is converted into liquid form. But it cannot be directly given to drink .
Hence this condensate (liquid) is collected below the condenser and sent to a purification system through pipes. From there we get from this we get clean and purified water. So this system just uses the moisture in the air to actually produce water! The capacity of this plant is of producing 1000 liters i.e. 1m3 of water / day in areas where RH (relative humidity) goes above 70%. For example, in cities like Mumbai, where there is less humidity level, this system produces less water. It is a really good innovation by 'EOLE', and still research is going on various other methods that could be used to produce water! VRUSHABH JOIJODE (D.M.E 3RD YEAR)
